Renowned shooter Patrick Kelley has worked closely with Savage Arms in the development of their MSR-10 Long Range rifle. Needing a long range tack driver that can meet the standards of competition, Kelley has offered his professional shooting experience to the engineers to create a rifle that dominate at multigun and precision rifle shooting competitions. Now, Patrick is trying out his handiwork with a pre-production Savage MSR-10 Long Range in .308 Winchester at the MGM Targets Long Range Ironman Challenge.
This isn’t necessarily one of Patrick’s “Out of the Box and Into the Match” reviews, as he added a Burris XTRii 5-25×50 scope and zeroed it in. But, other than putting about 40 rounds through the gun to establish a confident zero and a DOPE chart, Patrick hasn’t had much time to get acquainted with this pre-production MSR-10. This is Patrick’s first Ironman PRS event; he’s previously shot in all sorts of other competitions, but not in a major long range match…especially with an untested gun! The video is a little longer than normal, running a little over 20 minutes, but you get some great insight into the performance of the Savage MSR-10 and the flow of an Ironman Precision Rifle match. Watch it here now:
As you can see, that Savage rifle can run. The combination of Mr. Kelley’s shooting prowess, the Savage’s malfunction-free performance, the precision of the Burris optic, and the match grade accuracy of Federal’s Gold Medal Match 175 grain .308 ammo combined for a 2nd place finish in the Tac Heavy division of the 2017 MGM Ironman Long Range Challenge. Not bad at all for Pat’s first crack at an unfamiliar match with an untested prototype, if you ask me.
